So ive built a new pc for my mom recently, her previous pc had a Pentium D from 2005 and 2gb ddr2 ram so she needed a upgrade anyway she use to leave her pc on all the time and no one really cared because of how rubbish it was but i was led to believe that it is not good to leave the pc on 24 7 because of dust build up and TIM going bad should she leave it on or should it be turned off at night also someone told me that the solder becomes defected on the cpu but i dont know weather that is true ?

PCs can be run 24/7 the only thing that wears down is the hard drives.

Obviously other parts like caps and chokes have a lifespan too.

SHutting down at night conserves power above all else and it is good to reboot systems frequently so I say shut down.

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.

It usually won't matter with such low power shit components to be honest. The solder thing is bullshit.

It won't matter if she leaves it on or not. Dust will built up either way, and having it running will likely help with dust by circulating the air.

You could just set it up so that it goes to sleep after an hour of inactivity or something. Will save some money on electricity.
