so ive had my 3770k running stable at 4.4 ghz for the past few months and i decided to oc it a bit more just out of curiosity. but no matter what voltage or ratio i input, the system wont ever clock above 4.4Ghz. it doesn't BSOD, it just wont show it any higher when i go into cpuz after booting up. im currently at 1.33 volts and the processor still wont show any higher than 4.4. is there something wrong with my chip or am i missing something in the bois? i have a sabertooth z77 motherboard.

I have the same motherboard and CPU as you. When I got the motherboard and tried to overclock, it wouldn't let me go very far at all. I searched around and found that I should update the BIOS. Go to the asus website and look up the sabertooth z77 and download the latest BIOS. Put the file on a memory stick and go into the BIOS and update it. Make sure you do NOT remove the usb stick or you may kill your BIOS, although this board does have 2 BIOSs that you can flip between.

After I updated it I managed a stable overclock on my 3770K at 4.5GHz at 1.23V in prime95. I have it on offset so it returns to a lower voltage when it is not under load.

Good luck :D

P.S. You also need to understand that all chips will overclock differently, I was lucky with mine, it runs cool and at a low voltage. You may not have been so lucky unfortunately.

I 2nd the BIOS issue, I had the same issue. I went back to an older version of the BIOS but updating or reapplying the same version has worked for a lot of people as well.

P.S. I don't have the best chip and had to run 1.344v for a 4.6ghz OC (I also have 3770k and z77 Sabertooth)

Cheers,

DeeG

that's the issue ive seem to come up with also. my cpu was stable at 4.5 and 1.232V earlier in the year but i knocked it down to 4.4 because the temps were a bit hot for my hyper 212. now that i have an h100i i decided to put it back up and it just wont indicate higher than 4.4. i also encountered a problem this morning that my bios splash screen isn't showing up in general, and if i hit the delete key while booting nothing will show up and the computer will just idle indefinitely. i think later tonight im going to try to reset my bios and then update it, because this is starting to get a bit weird.
