So my laptop was overheating.  So last night I took my laptop apart and found the thermal paste was dried out and barely any left on the cpu.  So after a trip to frys coming in for one thing and leaving with about 10 things, I got the thermal paste and replaced it. It is a cheap asus laptop with an amd a8, but I thought asus would use better compound than that.  I like asus laptops because of there cooling.  I had a friend back in the day that would redo the thermal paste right when he bought his laptops.  I'm starting to think he was right.  Any thoughts?  I was thinking about the gx500 if it ever comes out or a g751.  Anyone know what type of thermal paste they use on the rog laptops?

laptops all use some generic rubbish no matter what make/model I find. ROG laptops use the same thing Its one of the first things I replace in a new laptop. Just be careful only to put a small amount you only want a thin layer.

(I own a Asus G550JK)

Just make sure it's not conductive (electrically) because laptops are a more crammed environment and if it shorts anything around it, say goodbye. So just apply a small blob of paste on the center.
