ITT: Changing my HDD in my MacBookPro to a SSHD.

UselessBread

1. Preambel

First. I am not sure if this is the appropriate section, Mods shall fix it if not.

This is somewhat of a log or tutorial of changing a HDD in Unibody MacBooks. I am no expert and have only done this on a older MBP.

May it serve the future reader as a guide on what to or what not to do.

2. Preparations

First I backed up my HDD onto my WD external harddrive. I used Time Machine, because there is a restore function on the mac os boot DVD, and it is free.

Next I looked if I had the required material.

A set of screwdrivers (T6, PH000, PH00. Not sure if T6 is needed with Unibody Macs)

Scalpel and tiny pincers. (You probably won't need these)

A SSHD (This is a Seagate one. WD also makes some, take a SSD if it makes you happy.)

This is a thick style SSHD, unlike the ones Linus looked at at Computex

And of course a MacBook(15", 2010 Model)

In the next post I will be taking this apart.

screw these into your new hard-drive or SSD. Plug the new device in to the SATA port.

Put the harddrive back and screw the bracket back in.

Then put the backplate back, and screw all the screws back in.

You now have a new HDD in your MacBook

Next post I will be restoring my data.

N. Addendum

Here is why there is force on lifting off the bottom plate

These latches

Go into these things.
