I have an old PC I was going to fix up for my sister but it is totally dead. So I thought I would just strip it out and rebuild it. I have a very tight budget though, basically as little as possible. The one think I am stuck on is which processor to go for.

Requirements:

- Cheap as possible.

- Good for doing the usual internet browsing and word documents (so I suppose thats any and every processor).

- Play the occasional game, Lord of the Rings Online, Sims 2 /3 /4 (on the last one low settings don't matter as long as it is playable).

- Uses the same socket as something like the i5 / FX 8350 processor so in a couple of years time it can be cheaply upgraded without changing the mobo to play, I dunno, The Sims 6.

The rest of the build so you can suggest something that avoids bottle necking I was thinking either a GTX750ti or R9 270 and one stick of 4GB ram.

On that note, while you are here for these requirements which is better:

GTX 750Ti (aprox £110)

R9 270 (aprox £115)

R9 260 (aprox £85)

AMD or Intel?

I have no preference, which ever fits those requirements better. When i say uses the same socket as an i5 for future upgrading if it uses the same one as an FX 8350 thats just as good :)

FX 8350 is already showing signs of aging... I suggest you go with Intel...

G3258 with a Z97 Mobo, and you can upgrade to Broadwell in a few years :D

As for GPU R9 270 is the best :)

Also, don't forget an aftermarket cooler :D

You dont even need a z97 mobo for that chip for overclocking, many companies have released bios updates for H87 B85 mobo to allow overclocking for the G3258

How many computer programmers does it take to change a light bulb?

None, that's a hardware problem.  :D

Thanks for the suggestion, I love that INTELs sockets can use such a huge range of processors. Would the G3220 be just as capable? It is £10 cheaper.

I won't be bothering with an aftermarket cooler, got to keep the cost as low as possible :)

Yeah, but Z mobo is made for oc'in, so it's better (and they aren't that expensive :D)

Yes, but it will not be very good for anything except what you want it to do...

I also suggest you go with some H mobo for it :D
