Windows 8.1 Student

jem.graham

I'm looking to buy windows 8.1 student but I read places that you need Windows 7 installed to get it.

I have Windows 7 but my friend put it on for me when I build my PC so I don't have a product key and I don't know where my friend got it from.

Will I be able to install it?

Thanks,

Jem

Yep, you'll be fine. Dunno why you'd have to have Windows 7 installed beforehand, though.

Ok, Thanks for you help :)

Windows 8.1 Pro Student: £50:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msuk/en_GB/pdp/Windows-8.1-Pro-Student/productID.288533400

I installed it onto my new pc with no OS installed.

I installed it with a USB.

Once you purchase the OS, you will be emailed your receipt with a link to your "account" page or something like that. From there you can download the exe file. The exe file will allow you to make a USB drive bootable with the OS. The exe file does not install the OS on the computer you are using. You will have to put the USB into a blank computer or from an empty partition and boot from it.

I used this and it works. If you need any help with it, feel free to ask!

Oh and if you don't want to boot from a USB, you can purchase a Windows 8.1 Pro disc for just over £10.

Booting from a USB will delete all data on there. But after the USB is made bootable you can put new files onto the drive to make use of any extra space on there - unrelated files will not interfere with the installation! Though make sure there's no virus or malware on there of course.
