Just a crazy idea...

Go to solution Solved by Atlantisman,

No, and even if you could there would be driver issues, the router would be too dumb to know how to use the additional hardware. Better just just a range extender or something similar.

Has this been done before? Would there be any way to connect a wireless USB adapter to the input of an old wired router? Then use the router itself as an Ethernet hub?

I realize there is the issue where you would need drivers to run the wireless adapter as well as some sort of interface.

Im wondering if there would be some cheap way of doing this, just for fun!

You could probably turn it into a signal repeater with DD-WRT.

is that not for use with a wireless router though? this isnt a wifi router. but i think what you are saying is if i had the input from my main router in the form of Ethernet then that would work. I think i get that, but i want to use the wireless adapter to accept the signal from my main router first, then use the old router as a hub for ethernet cables.

Now that i think about it, could i plug the wireless adapter into a pc, then run a cable to the old router and somehow make it work from there?

You could just get this Cisco Ethernet Hub $6 + $6S&H if you just want an ethernet hub.

But, based off

I think you want the main source to be from wireless.... I have no idea how you would do that easily. At that point you could just get a WiFi range extender.
