just wondering if anyone has actually used any of these ? how are they lol

you could pretty much build an entire system without fans with passive gpu, cpu, and psu.

You'd need at least 2 fans, one for intake and one for exhaust, otherwise the case would turn into a hot box, but if you're not looking to overclock anything and just want a very silent computer, then they'll work fine.

Something like that will can be done in an open test bench, or something like that, because on a normal computer hot air will build up eventually (pretty fast if you ask me), unless there is some awesome case that allows a good "natural" air flow.

If you get an R4 then you can use the vents at the top to get rid of heat from the CPU and GPU (heat rises). Use one good fan at the intake (NF-F12 is good) to push air into the case and air will find its way out. Maybe use one fan at the bottom to push air towards your graphics card.

By the way, good luck finding good passively cooled graphics cards. If you want to game, you need one with a fan. If you want quiet operation, something like an ASUS Direct CU II would be good.

As far as PSU's go, if you want to game with a fanless PSU, you want to have some airflow. A good way to do this would be to use a graphics card with a cooler that pushes air away from the graphics card (I believe Windforce coolers do this) and have that push air through the power supply. The best option would be to get a PSU with a really quiet fan like one from Seasonic.

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use, and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them. - Galileo Galilei

Scythe had a huge passive cooler. Forgot the name, but I'd bet that one would do the trick since it had a considerable surface area.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

You can use one of these http://www.nofancomputer.com/eng/products/CR-95C.php'>link

A suitable case would be Corsair Air 540

For a GPU you should try something like a Sapphire 7750 Ultimate or the upcomming 7770

If you're curious, this is how the cooler performs as a totally passive heatsink http://browse.feedreader.com/c/FanlessTech/356707081'>link

Check out this blog for more fanless stuff link

Or you can use their own cases which are optimized for passive cooling. http://www.nofancomputer.com/eng/products/CS-80.php

Yeah I know, but they're pretty ugly IMO :P
The new Corsair Air 540 has a good desing, and it's higly optimized for air cooling just as any of these.

I run an Mugen II on my 2600k at stock and its idling at 33°C and peaks at 50°C when I run p95 on the cpu and furmark on my HD6870.

But then again, I have an Antec One Hundred, which is great for air cooling and quite cheap. In there I placed two 120s front, one back, one side and a 140 top. run them at 5V through my scythe kaze Q. Fans are all T.B. silence from enermax. so except for my GPU with that stupid single 90mm fan-design, everything runs quiet. The loudest thing are my HDDs (WD Black 1TB + WD Blue 500GB). But take these HDDs away and you got yourself a very silent case.

But if you ask me; you gotta have some kind of a fan or two, otherwise I don't see you realizing a powerful build but if you just used a Haswell i7, a massive CPU cooler (like my Mugen II) and something like a 770 with a really huge cooler and big, slow fans on it and silent intake and exhaust fans, you should be able to do a pretty silent build. But for that you'd have to have an SSD, otherwise your HDD would definitely be the loudest thing in the case (like it's with me when my PC is doing nothing gpu-intensive).

ASUS also makes passively cooled video cards with their DirectCU cooler.

You can run a completely passive system...

No to little OC on a CPU

Add a passive CPU cooler

Add a passive large aftermarket GPU cooler

Fanless PSU

InWin D-frame / H-Frame case and you're set :)

That's pretty much what I said in my first post...

But these guys seem to disagree.

Plus, dust will settle in a D-frame..

I saw a thing sort of like this

they had a i5 with a silverstone he02 and in the back was a noiseblocker fan that couldn't be heard from 50cm away. Then you thrown in the power color passive cooled 7850 and a seasonic passive power supply and your set
