Assassins Creed Unity Performance Issues

So I bought Assassins Creed Unity for my PC expecting to be able to play this game with decent setting on 1920x1080p 60fps. I have a mid range pc and it turns out I can only play this game in 1280x720 resolution. I have to put all my settings onto low and even then I can barely hold 30 fps. I thought this might be a graphics card driver issue or something so I re- installed my nVidia drivers and tried to play again... no luck. So I did some looking around on the web and found that the minimum requirements for this game was a GTX 680! This blew my mind and I honestly thought this was a joke of some sort. A $500 graphics card to just be able to play this game seems insane. At this point the only thing I could hope for is the modding community to make some config files to remove any unnecessary elements to the game. I looked around and found nothing, is it too early for this game to be mod-able?

You can cross your fingers for better optimization, but AC: Unity is just a bad console port.

Return it if you can.

It's not a bad console port. It's just a bad game. It's even worse on console. Xbox chugs along at 25 fps dipping to 20 occasionally. and ps4 about 28 dipping to 24

I am sorry man, but you should keep up with the times. Everyone knows at this point not to buy ubisoft games until they are reviewed and you know exactly what you are getting yourself into. Ubisoft games have been mostly trash the last few years with the exception of far cry 3 and splintercell black list. I am sure far cry 4 should be...okay at least pc port wise.
