hey all

so ive been living in canada for the past 5 years or so, but its not until this year that im thinking of throwing some money at computer hardware for a new nas

turns out that black Friday and cyber monday are coming up, i believe? i dont fully understand how these days work so im looking for some north americans to clue me in.

are these sale days the same in canada as in the states? if so, whats the best way to take advantage of them?

is it strictly a one day thing? a week? or can i already buy things now at discount prices? and are there particular canadian retailers that might have things like cpus, hard drives etc that i should keep an eye on for sales?

I've never gone all out and stuck in it to the end of a black friday. Too much hub-bub and craziness being pushed up from the States, plus consumers be crazy those days. However, a few piece of advice are as follows:

Black Friday PRO Tips:

  • Impulse buying ensures you get deals before they're out of stock
  • Arriving with a sword and shield in hand helps get you to the front of the line
  • Best to pay with plastic not cash as cash is slow and can get stolen in all the commotion
  • Get there early if shopping at a physical store; be ready for slow websites if shopping online
  • Arrive in a small group if buying many purchases, or bring a tank

Black Friday PRO Cons:

  • Impulse buying ensures you buy more crap you probably don't need
  • Arriving with weapons will have you removed from the line whence arriving at the front
  • Best not to pay unless you're absolutely sure of purchase - returns aren't always easy
  • Getting up 3 days in advance and stressing over slow websites is usually not worth the stress
  • Arriving in a small group usually requires coordination; keeping that group together requires god-powers

Seriously though, if you know what you're after, set a budget/goal, and get out once you've made your purchases, it'll be smooth sailing. Any questions, feel free to ask away below :D

Also, the site for deals I follow is RedFlagDeals as they post up all the flyers in advance... usually.

sounds crazy. So I'm not planning on doing any in person shopping due to time limitations (and I dont feel like dealing with what sounds like a mess!)

as far as online stores go, I typically buy bits and pieces from places like ncix, newegg, directcanada etc. Are they likely to have sales during this period? I.e. should I wait? and if so, when do these sales typically start?
