To make a long story short..

While gaming the other night, windows hung (completely froze, non responsive at all) until i reset my system with the reset switch. Rebooted, loaded windows and a couple minutes later, hung again. Third reboot, said "NTDLR Missing.. ". So I pop in my Windows 7 USB stick for recovery, and it didn't detect any windows installations. Go to my bios, and after a few minutes of looking i realize my SSD is not listed in my bios. Several shit bricks later, still not showing up. It showed up after a reboot in the bios, but then when I continued with booting it wasn't there. Reset the bios, cleared cmos (twice). Still not detected (mad sure to reset all sata ports to AHCI mode and checked it wasnt the port or sata cable by using a different port with a known working cable from my hard drives).

Its a crucial M4 ssd, firmware 0309. 64GB. I've heard that these can become undetected after powerloss, or "panic locked" whatever that is. I've tried plugging just the power in to the ssd for a half hour, then plugging in the sata cable and rebooting, to no avail. Pretty sure its a dead SSD at this point, but I'm just making sure Ive tried everything.

I am whatever I am.

Already sent an email, and it should still be under warranty. I bought it in 2012, and they have 3year warranties so I am, hopefully, covered.

I'll pray to the RNG gods that they dont actually make my SSD any more and send me an upgrade. That happened to my GPU, had a 6870, it died, sent it back to XFX and got a 7850 instead.

I am whatever I am.

Crucial is good in the customer service department from my past experiences from them. You should be fine.

Theres really nowhere to upgrade to.

I have an M4 and an 840 Evo in my rig at school, and unless I compare the two side by side and can't really tell them apart -- the 840 boots like 1-2 seconds faster and opens applications a fraction of a second faster.

Well i meant like whatever repalces the M4 on their lineup (if anything), or a larger capacity, etc etc..

edit: Wont happen, you can still buy mine on newegg. #wishful thinking

From what i understand, SSDs dont really do much before they fail. They just go.

correct, but hard drive sentinel give real time health of the drive so you're able to back it up before it dies.
