My stock Verizon router sucks, but it hasn't been much of a deal since I never used wireless.

Until I got my SHIELD tablet. I can only stream in the same room as the router, at maybe 10ft and a little choppy. My bedroom has zero connection.

So, I'm looking into buying a wireless router and need some help.

I don't know a whole lot about networking and what to look for in a router.

I need something that can stream games to my tablet smoothly while in my living room maybe 40ft away.

The tablet is the only wireless device in my house.

That could change in the future. If whatever I get reaches the PC in my room then I'll hook that one up to wireless.

My ISP is about 50Mb/s down and 20Mb/s up.

What should I buy without waisting my money on something I don't need?

I'm currently building a $2K 2011-3 platform and don't like the thought of buying anything else right now.

Thanks in advance! :)

Netgear WNDR4500 is what I have but if all you are doing is your shield an old WRT54G will work.

It's quite a bit worse than my current router that isn't working for me.

loool Telus here in Canada has the exact same router but with green LEDs and Telus branding

everybody I know who has one, hates it.

If you have the money the AC66U is the best price to performance router. If you have Verizon Fios TV they you HAVE to use the default router regardless but with some messing around you can use your own for the internet and then the Actiontec router is just used for the STBs otherwise it's a pretty simple task. You'll have to call Verizon (only if your using Fios) and have them enable the ethernet port on the ONT and release the DHCP lease on the old router so you can use your own. http://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.0_Networking

Then go for a WNDR4500, amazing fucking router.

Not at all, it has a slow single core SoC between 550-680 Mhz and I can almost guarantee the NAT table can be easily flooded is seconds.
