Comparing two laptops, need some help

Betabot

Hey, hopefully I'm posting this in the right section, because I know there is a GPU section, though thought it would be better suited to the Laptop section.

So here's the deal, I posted a topic about getting a new laptop a few days ago, and did some research and found two decently looking laptops within my budget.

These are the two:

http://www.p4laptops.com.au/Metabox_Prime_P157SM-A.htm - $1750

http://www.p4laptops.com.au/Metabox_Prime_P650SE.htm - $1770

The $1750 has these as different specs:

i7 - 4710MQ

970M 6GB

TN Display

8GB RAM

While the $1770 has these:

i7 - 4710HQ

970M 3GB

IPS Display

16GB RAM

So I was wondering if you could help me understand the difference between the two processors, and also comment on the different variants of GPUs. I know that currently the 6GB is pretty much wasted currently, would 3GB be good for like 2 years time?

Also which would you pick, currently leaning towards the $1770 because of the IPS display mainly, but the extra 8GB Ram is also nice. Just need some more information.

Thanks

CPU's are pretty much on par.

Doubt you'd need 6GB of VRAM but with them in the same price bracket why not get more?

TN - cheaper, quicker response time, better contrast, worse viewing angles and color reproduction.

8GB of RAM is probably enough for most things you'd do with a laptop unless you're video editing or something.

Depends on what you'd use it for.

Overall I think the cheaper one is better for gaming - though I personally hesitate at the TN panel since I'm not hardcore enough to care about response times.

Cpu's look the same just different sockets for some reason. Get the one with IPS definitely.

both are almost the same processor except a different clock speed for the onboard Intel HD Graphics

and different socket type

the display on the laptop are only 1080P

so 3GB is more than enough for 1080P Ultra gaming

Thanks for that, wasn't sure about the CPU.

But that makes it a lot easier, and I didn't think the extra 3GB would make a different for a 1080p screen.

So the extra 8GB Ram and the fact that it's an IPS screen really is worth the extra $20  :)

Also I would rather the IPS screen for a laptop, don't really mind about the extra potential of extra FPS on some games.

Thanks for the information and opinions.
