Modem Router issues

Hi all, thanks for checking this out. I'll jump straight into the question to keep things sweet and simple. For the past year or so I've been having problems with my Modem/Router combo (A Belkin N+) Though I reallllyyy (REALLLY) like this modem/router unfortunately I think because it uses an older 2.4Ghz frequency it's getting caught up by every other wireless devices in the area (every other WiFi signal around my house and inside it is also using 2.4Ghz), however I'm going off an a tangent here, the question is this: Can rouge WiFi signal and/or cluttered WiFi traffic cause my router to disconnect from the internet? Not the WiFi, the actual internet connection collapses. I've tried other 2.4Ghz modem/router combos and they all did the same thing. If too much local WiFi traffic is the issue would upgrading to a 5Ghz router fix the issue?

I apologize for my rambling it's late and I'm beginning to wind down, any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks <3

Yes they can interfere and they will interfere, thats why it is best to use Ethernet cable. And no upgrading to 5GZ will do little to help since most devices don't support it yet. To an extend using 5GZ will help but you will still have interference.  On your router try to change the wireless channel, on my router i can select from 14 different wireless channels.

 

Since the Internet is dropping and not the Wifi it most probably due to bad cabling or your lease time on your IP addresses are like 1h or sum, when normally they are 1-3 days. The router could also be fault.

Neat, unfortunately I don't work with anything network related so I'm still unsure of a lot of things so thanks for clearing this up for me. Also I should ask, is there any way I could stop the connection from dropping if the IP change is what could be causing the internet to drop out?
