I have a stable 4.8 on my 4790K in a Mavimus VI Formula using the auto overclocker.    I ended up reducing the voltage after some testing but other than that didn't have to touch a thing.

Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

That's probably its most useful purpose. You can fine tune it yourself after it does most of the tedium.

Some people have good results with it, others don't.  It is a good way to get a baseline quick and dirty overclock to get an idea of how good of an overclocking chip you have, but it is best to do it in the BIOS.

My suggestion is to run the auto-OC and get a baseline of what your chip does. The maximum voltage it will push is 1.275v, this is the hard cap programed into the auto-OC utility.   The auto-overclock will start and keep increasing voltage and Mhz until your blue screen.  This is normal.  Just let it run and do its thing.  When you boot back up, the overclock settings will be applied.  If it is not stable, simply go back into your BIOS, Hit F5 to revert everything back to default and do it manually.
