Can't decide on a CPU

Go to solution Solved by What's a GPU?,

I5 4690k for sure, if you do get an aftermarket cooler don't overdue it. Unless you want some extreme overclocking (which you don't need for gaming) then air cooling will be fine.

Hey guys, I'm new here, this is my first time posting and stuff, but that isn't important. So I'm building a PC, this is my first one that I'm custom building, and I really can't decide on what cpu to get. The rest of my specs are:

ASRock Fatal1ty Killer LGA 1150 Motherboard

In Win GT1 Black SECC case

8 gigs of Corsair Vengeance 1600 RAM

1 TB Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 HDD

128 gig Samsung 840 Pro SSD

2 Corsair AF Series quiet LED red 120mm fans

Gigabyte Windforce 4 gig GTX 970 graphics card

Also, depending on which graphics card is suggested, should I get an after market CPU cooler? I'd rather not watercool, because this is already more than I wanted to spend.

Thanks so much in advance!!

-MattLantis

Edit - I'd like to stick with an i5, because, ya know, price

i5-4460 or better (4690k), theres no need for an aftermarket cooler if you're not overclocking (You should be overclocking a 4690k -- eventually anyway).

Not knowing what your budget is, get and i5 4690K (or an i5 3570K). They offer great performance for dollar and are easily over clock-able. You may not be thinking about overclocking now but it still makes sense to get an unlocked processor in case you want to later.

You should definitely invest an aftermarket cooler, it just depends on what you want to spend and if your planning to over clock your cpu.

Any of the i5's should do fine, if you want to overclock then you will have to get one of the K series ones. I would recommend and aftermarket cooler even if you aren't going to overclock because they help increase CPU longevity and make your PC much quieter.
