The review I posted above of GIMP photo editing on a overclock Pentium seems to match an i7 and beats the FX series (which is what i was planning on buying) for some reason. Can someone explain to me how this is possible? Most of you guys say software like these take advantage of more cores, yet an overclock, not to mention stock destroyed the FX series...

Gimp is not that heavy on multiple threads.. Look at Handbrake.

Would the G3258 be a good chip if your just gaming, and doing photo editing such as GIMP?

Plus for FX processors, you guys said its good for the price, yet a 2nd gen i5 destroys it in handbrake?

The g3258 is fine for that. Just don't expect to stream while having or anything like that.

The i5 still costs more than the 8350 and the 2500k's oc was at a nominal 5ghz.

Not everything is equally threaded. A task like rendering for Maya would be where a cpu like the 8350 really shines.

It would be nice if there was more feedback....

Streaming games as in when your gameplay is being uploaded live for others to see--ever seen people stream games on Twitch?

Oh yea, I don't really do any of that. If i get the Pentium could I upgrade to Broadwell next year? I heard its the same socket.

You'd need a h97 or z97 board for Broadwell.

Personally I'd get an i5 if you wanted to use the GIMP while playing the game and be constantly flicking back and forth. The Pentium would be just fine for either of those activities at a time.

I was planning on the FX 8320, but once the FX dies, there's really no use for the motherboard. So i'm gonna get the pentium and upgrade to a broadwell i5-k during next year Q2 when its release
