Need advice on first build.

CPU is an AMD phenom x4 965 be 3.4

[h=1]MSI 990XA-GD55 AM3+[/h]

I'm considering this motherboard. msi 990xa-gd55 am3+ It has a few bad reviews, but I love the O.C. Genie feature. "I'd rather not try over clocking myself and messing up everything."

My question is what would be the best "cheap" GPU for NOW, just to run video until I can buy a good one. Also, I'm thinking of 2x8 16gb of ram. Could you guys try helping me figure out the best match with this motherboard, or if this mobo isn't a good choice, could you recommend a good one?

whats your max budget?maybe we could suggest a better build overall.

also do you have a microcenter near you?they have amazing processor and motherboard pricing that could make a huge difference in what you can buy.

http://www.microcenter.com/site/stores/default.aspx

what do you plan to use the pc for?because with 16GB of ram it makes me think a 3d rendering/video editing workstation, but then you have the phenom x4 965 which makes me less sure about that.

and to suggest a gpu we need to know what cheap means for the gpu,to some people <$200 is cheap to others <$50 is cheap.

same thing for the motherboard,we need to know the budget to suggest one.

I don't. =/ I was thinking just to spend 100 on each. maybe a $20.00 gpu to start out with. Then "slowly" upgrading EVERYTHING and eventually using the replaced parts on this PC to build another one.

What do you need the GPU for? Browsing? Indie games? Newer games?

Mostly gaming, but I also work with Sony Vegas a LOT.

if you plan to only use it for gaming even in the future then go with 8Gb of ram, much cheaper and more practical.

maybe this motherboard

as for the gpu I'd consider something like a used 9800gt on ebay or something since it's only temporary.

if you need 16GB for sony vegas,I use it and 8GB works for me,then go with this.

although for video editing you may want to consider spending more for intel, they have much better performance on video encoding

That OC button will mess up things faster than a noob will. Almost all MoBos come with Auto OCing features, all of them are selling points. Heck, my ASUS MoBo has four Auto OC features (two OC switches on the board and two software based OC options. Haven't used one of them.

You also do not need a "990" board unless your are going for like crazy four-way Crossfire/SLI set ups. A cheaper "970" will still do two-way Crossfire/SLI easily.

16GB ram wouldn't be a bad idea for editing, but I easily get away with 8GB in Vegas.

Please be patient, save up your money to build a much more future proof computer. You will whinned up spending much more money in the long run if you just jump

into it with both feet. Buying whatever just throwing a sysytem together. Save Up my friend, Please.

In my opinion I would check into a FM2 board. Mobo r entry lvl and cheap. Also the CPU is an apu, which is ur processor and graphics inter grated. Could be better if ur no a heavy gamer. I built one for family an he likes bit. Plays bf3 just fine.

I also agree that 8gb is good amount of ram:) u can always upgrade down the road.
