Hey all, thanks for your time.

So yesterday I (unwillingly) updated my laptop from windows 8 to 8.1. Now, there is a constant "stutter" in both video and audio when viewing/playing games or listening to music. For instance, before the update I was able to play Battlefield 4 at around 30-40 FPS medium to low settings quite smoothly. Now after the update the frame rate seems to be the same but the games video and audio stutters massively. Not only this but when watching YouTube or listening to music there is a stutter within the sound, sort of like the music is dropping out for a nanosecond every second.

I've tried updating my IDT High Definition Audio drivers and my Nvidia card is up to date, however none of these actions has resolved the problem. Also, a full system re install is slightly out of the question due to being so close to due dates for many assignments. This laptop acts both as my gaming system and as my workstation, so loosing the programs provided by my school right now would be a catastrophe. Avoiding this solution would me much appreciated, but I will understand why people suggest it.
