Hey Gregas,

A very common choice among builders is 120GB SSD with WD Blue 1TB as it works great and is within your budget while you can put the more demanding stuff on the SSD (here's a link to that: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=770). If you happen to look for a larger drive for secondary storage, I would backup @ and also say that WD Green is a good drive for that.
What are your plans for the HDD part of your storage?
You could continue using your old storage on the computer as separate drives for additional space or backup. I would just recommend running a check for bad sectors as well as for its S.M.A.R.T. status just to make sure your data is still safe. :) A good tool is WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic (here's a link: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810〈=en). I would recommend running both the quick and the extended tests.

Hope this helps :)

I have always trusted WD. I have a good friend that worked for WD for a long time. I have a Green drive that has lasted me through 3 PCs which is the best I have found hard drive wise.

Sorry, guys... but since he actually said that he wants a 2/3TB HDD, recommending a WD Blue all the time is a bit pointless, isn't it? ;)

I would go with

ssd: MX100 128gb for $89.

hdd: Seagate 2tb barracuda for $99.

It's too bad that the prices are more in Aus but what can you do? I'd recommend the MX100 256 but it's $139 which blows your budget. sigh

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!
