So I was browsing online looking at small form-factor PCs including the Raspberry Pi and other small systems.
I had an idea to create a small HTPC, NAS or non-graphically intense system - where I can just muck around with and get some building experience.

With the advancement of small form-factor systems, I thought it'd be cool to custom make an inexpensive system based off Adventure Time's BMO character. It wouldn't be hard - just a matter of powering the system and custom designing the case to fit all the I/O - as well as look accurate.

I'm looking into the system being powered off one single cord - although some form of battery power would be nice to have BMO to carry around.

The system should be able to run from a Raspberry Pi, and will include:

  • USB-based storage
  • Wi-Fi
  • LCD or old CRT display (depending on what is more readily available/space efficient
  • Battery powered (possibly)
  • Stereo speakers
  • Rear I/O incuding; multiple USB, Ethernet, HDMI

I'm looking into HID being included on the front of the case - as per the Adventure Time character, however this may be too hard to implement.

I'll be looking at running Win7 for the OS, but once I have more time available I'll look into making a Linux-based 'BMO' variant.

Any ideas of what display/power components to use would be amazing - and I would be considering other platforms besides the Raspberry Pi.

Let me know what you guys think. I'm looking to be spending around $150AUD on this project as I have a lot of DIY capabilities around the house.

EDIT: Sorry guys, I realise this should have gone into the 'new builds and planning' thread.
