So I just ordered myself some PC parts, a Pentium G3258 on an MSI Z87 board, and I've been watching build videos for tips and tricks. I have a few questions, and am also just hoping for general advice for a first time builder.

1) So how do I know if my system is working when I start it up outside the system?

2) If I get a SATA cable and copy my current hard drive onto my new one, does it bring Windows? If not, how do I go about getting my files onto my new computer?

3) Is it safe to do some mild overclocking with a stock cooler? I'm planning on upgrading soon, but currently I only have the stock cooler.

4) I've been told it's fine multiple times, but I just want to check again, I can put in an R9 280X with an Antec Neo Eco 620w PSU right?

Thanks all. :)

@vern021, Here's the build, I got the HDD from Amazon for $43, and the 280X is coming from a friend of a cousin once we figure out a price.

@Alistaroc

1. Plug in the monitor and see if it boots to BIOS.(using ram, gpu, mobo, cpu)

2. You can copy it with a cloning software. Oftentimes the software is bundled with an SSD.

3. It is ok but I don't recommend it. The cooler is already loud but if you can deal with it then go for it. ;)

4. Hell yeah!

Question: Post your full build please? :D

1. When the fans start running and leds work, also no buzzing or beeps

2. I think so? However if it doesnt work you could try getting an external enclosure to copy them over or use the pc it came from to transfer the OS

3. Yeah it should be ok, just watch your temps carefully

4. Yeah you should be fine

I recommend you change the RAM with either of these two

So I got everything but the hard drive in the mail, but my PSU doesn't seem to have an 8-pin connector that fits. I have 2 6+2 pin connectors and 1 4+4 pin connector, but none of them are in the right orientation. Can anyone help?

EDIT: Somehow I tried what I've tried before and it fit.
