Problem updating my drivers

Don't use 14.9? 

 

Use 14.4 Stable.

I follow the instructions above every time but once the drivers finish installing my computer just goes to black screen and then put the monitor to sleep. Then when I turn the computer back on I don't get to the log in screen before it crashes and falls asleep. So I have to do a system restore each time. 

 

I'm using windows 8.1 and my gpu is a r9 290 if you need any more info just ask.
