The car is a 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback, wiring diagram I'm using is here: http://ae64.com/Legacy-pinout.htm

I need some help installing a head unit!  Below are the wires I'm having trouble figuring out

1. the blue/white remote out wire (do I need it?, for like an internal amp in the car or something?)(I DONT HAVE SUBS AS OF YET)

2. the wires in my hand: I know yellow is constant 12v, red is accessory 12v, and orange/white is illumination +

that leaves me with the car having a green/orange (near the 2 pin connector, power antenna+) and a yellow/blue (illunation - dimmer) unconnected.. is that a problem?

also, there's a 2 pin connect with white/green and yellow/blue that isn't connected to anything (any idea what that is?)

post-3187-0-38626600-1414625680_thumb.jp there's the 2 pin on the side (not the two taped ones)

Here's a paper laying out what I have.

The top shows the wires I know are correct and below that are the wires not plugged in yet

The blue/white remote wire is only needed if you are using an external amplifier, such as one to power a subwoofer. You'll need to access this in the future when you do get subs, but for now don't connect anything to it. Don't keep the bare wire exposed though, as it carries 12V current when the stereo is on. Wrap it up for now.

As for the other three wires, the constant and ignition 12V wires from the harness go to their respective counterparts on the car. The orange/white illumination wire from the harness goes to the yellow/blue wire on the car. The green/orange wire from the car goes to the power antenna wire of the harness. On most wiring harnesses this is a solid blue wire.

I don't have a wiring harness.. I'm soldering onto the wires (I cut off the connector since I don't plan on putting the stock head unit back in).  I would have bought one but the car shop near me didn't have a wiring harness.  Would the harness have the wires?  (If you look at the paper the head unit doesn't have pwr antenna (how to I use the antenna, lol) or illumination - (dimmer))

The wires you'd hook up coming from the stereo will be the same as what would come from a harness, so you don't really need one. Since you're missing some cables, the best thing to do would be to just twist some cables together, and try the stereo before you put it all back together. For example with power connected, twist together (don't solder yet) the yellow/blue to the orange/white of the stereo and turn on the car and try the headlights to see if the dimmer works. If not, try the white/green to the orange/white instead.

Power antenna is just 12V whenever the stereo is on. You can just hook it up to the 12v ignition (red on stereo end) or amp remote wire, if you really need it.

Ok thank you i got it working but we'll see how it works without pwr antenna. Might connect it later
