Hiya~

So the summers coming up, and I've been wanting to get back into gaming, and my rig is starting to show it's age, and I think it is about time I upgrade. My goal with this system is mainly to play TERA. However, during boss fights my FPS absolutely plummets and I'm lucky to get 11 FPS with all settings at minimum. At first I suspected it was a GPU problem, but when I checked the GPU usage, MSI afterburner only read out 30-40% usage. So I expected a CPU bottleneck. This is where it gets weird, through task manager, the usage of my CPU only read out 54% usage during the fight. I have the latest drivers for everything... So I'm wondering, what exactly is the problem? GPU? CPU? Both? Something else?

My current computer is running:

Processor: AMD Phenom II x6 1055T @ 3.3 GHz

GPU: XFX Radeon 6770

RAM:  ADATA Gaming Series 4GB DDR3-1333

MOBO: ASUS M5A97 R 2.0

OS: Windows 8 Pro (64 bit)

My budget is around $300 for an upgrade. Any recommendations? Thanks!

P.S. I have no idea if I posted this in the right section

Yes, your ram seems a little bit on the small side.

I've never heard of that game, but there is a chance that it might not be very well optimized for your hardware.

OK well OK its not your GPUs problem. Vertulally everyone is suffering from low fps from tera online. I have gtx 570 and amd 1100t. And I get around 17 FPs average. Tera has horrible CPU and GPU mutilation. Its been like that since it was first released.

Amd fx-8320 oc 4.1ghz, 8gb ram, gtx 780ti 3gb, 240gb ssd, 1.5tb hdd,

Boss fights? As when grouping? The thing about multiple players in one spot fighting, is that:

1. The CPU has to calculate a lot of geometry (player armour meshes are pretty huge, as well as solid spell effects.) and this doesn't necessarily stress it all the way out, but it's still hitting it's limit.

2. The VRAM on your GPU will get full. The GPU doesn't have to work that hard, but it keeps having to swap textures in and out of memory which will cause stutter and texture pop-in.

Is it a 64bit client?

Try the following:

-Lower world detail and/or character detail (I suspect the latter will be enough) a notch.

-If there is a toggle for PhysX lower it/ turn it off.

If this leads to still being a bad gaming experience and you want to upgrade, I would do the GPU first.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Ive tried my gtx 570 withg  my amd 640 same issue. and also amd 640 with ati 6670 same exact issue. fps below 20 fps. no matter how low i put fps all the same fps

I'll try this with my gtx 480 and 2500K and see how it goes lol.

40-80fps  at max settings @1920x1080.

the below are stats from msi OSD and HWinfo after playing for an hour and a half.the server population (or whatever it's called in this game) was high.

[2500K @ 3.9ghz]

peak usage

core 0: 93.1%

core 1: 80.4%

core 2: 81.8%

core 3: 75.0%

[gtx 480 @ 800mhz core 1850mhz mem]

gpu usage hit 99% apparently, but whenever I looked at the OSD it was stuck at 80-81%,hwinfo averaged gpu load at 64.3%

my internet connection isn't awesome 20Mb down 4.5Mb up.

these are the stats while playing on the cloud streaming, might get better once fully downloaded, but 27GB takes forever to download.
