Upgrade from i5 3570k to i7 4790k

Oh sorry, I totally forgot to ask my question..
1. Is it worth it (upgrading from an i5 3570k to an i7 4790k) ?
2. What motherboard should i buy in order to have 2 GPU + Soundcard ?
3. Is the powersupply enough to hold both graphics card and an OCed CPU ?
4. Should i buy a reference GTX970 or a non-reference GTX970 ?
5. Is two GTX970 better that a single GTX980 (both in terms of practicality and performance) ?

1. I don't know, JayzTwoCents said upgrading from a fx-8350 to i7-3770k was his most expensive useless upgrade ever. He noticed no difference. The 4790k is better, but not that much.

2. Get a z97 for sure, the ASUS z97-ar for the price, ASUS Maximus Vii for looks and same performance as z97-ar. Also i recommend 1 GTX-980. It roughly the same performance, less power and some games don't even support sli so you will see no difference between one or two gtx 970's.

3. Get one gtx 980 and you have no problem

4. Non-reference GTX980

5. Roughly same performance, again, i recommend one higher end card instead of two cheaper ones.

wo wo wo buddy the GTX 980 is only about 10 to 15% faster than a GTX 970 and cost A LOT more than 15% more...also two GTX 970 totaly obliterate a single GTX 980.

I'd recomment going with a single GTX 970 and see how this does...performance on these are actualy very good for the price.

One GTX 980  = 600$

Two GTX 970  = 700$

700$ is more then 600$ , also two GTX 970 use more power then a single GTX 980.

Two GTX 970's will have less breathing room, so higher temps and lower overclocking room.

One GTX 980 will have sufficient air , lower temps and higher overclocking room.

Some games don't work properly with an SLI configuration, wich results in seeing next to no difference between one or two GTX 970's.

It is just better then buying a good single gpu then two cheaper ones.

i'm fully aware of SLI related drawbacks but you don't seem to be aware at how much more performance a pair of GTX 970's have to offer over a single GTX 980 for almost the same price.

I do agree that in most cases a single more powerful GPU is the way to go but this time nvidia played a butt launching the GTX 980 way to high with the same amount of VRAM and launching the

GTX 970 at such good price with the same 4GB of VRAM that a single 980 is a no brainer IMHO.

Have to agree with you there.

If he won't buy a second GTX 980 in the future dual GTX 970's would be better.

indeed...if the user is dead set on buying another 980 for the rest of the trip...then okay...it will be heavy on the wallet but okay...if not...you know.

i already have a Corsair H80, which is a decent CPU Cooler, but like you've said, a Corsair H110 or Noctua are much better and would definitely allow me to archeive 4.4 or 4.6Ghz.

As for the GTX980 vs GTX970SLI, i'd advice you to check some reviews. The GTX970Sli are much better than a single GTX980

To give you an idea, in my local store :

1 gtx 980 = +600€

2 gtx 970 = 620€

Yes, i pay 20€ plus, but i get almost 15-30% more performance

If you have a good CPU and you know heat is your limiting factor then you could consider an upgrade on the cooler...but make some testing to make sure your CPU can take more before doing it would be my advise just in case your CPU don't like

to go much faster....

And for your information GTX 970 SLI is a lot more than 15 to 30% better than a single GTX 980...it will vary from game to game but overall you are looking more at 50 to 60% better performance overall.

If you're into 1440P gaming or 120hz 1080p gaming defenetly get a pair of those...if you aim for 60FPS at 1080p then a single GTX 970 will get you there...a single GTX 980 won't cut it for 1440P, sure it will be playable and enjoyable

but you won't be able to max out games at 1440P 60FPS with a single of these...two GTX 970 will get you there.
