Hosting TEKKIT server, help?

Go to solution Solved by Johannes_Lazor,

Your desktop.

Allocate 2 of the cores to the server and 3gb RAM and you are fine for 2 or 3 players.

I would not advice anyone to have less than 2.5gb RAM for a tekkit/FTB server with 2 players.

But if you upgrade the RAM to 4 or 6 GB on your laptop i would advice you to use it instead.

So me and my riend want to make a Tekkit clasic server, for 2 of us and maybe an occasional 3rd.  Which computer will give us the least lag

My desktop

8 Gb DDR3 1600 RAM

athlon x4 760k

pleanty of 7200 HDD space

WIFI: ~13Mbps down ~2 Mbps up

My laptop

2Gb DDR3 SDRAM

Intel 2 core

70Gb free HDD space

Ethernet: 30Mbps down 3Mbps up

My friends computer

4Gb DDR31600 RAM

Intel Pentium G3258

100Gb 7200 HDD space

WIFI ~16 down ~1.1

Which should we use.

Well,as the owner of a tekkit classic server I can say that your internet connection is not fast enough to support the server, also you will want to allocate at least 3GB of ram to it leaving you with your desktop as the only choice, and the CPU of it is not incredibly powerful so the server will most likely lag.

But out of the 3 I'd say your desktop is the best option.

Personally I have my server hosted as my internet connection is only 30mb/s down 6mb/s up, even though my rig is more than capable of running it. (And I also like having my room quiet when trying to sleep, having my pc on doesn't help with that all that much..)

Servers are not easy to get into, and the player base of tekkit classic is really starting to die off..

I'd say laptop. As long as you run nothing else on it. Try to use Ethernet too, or place your laptop close to your router.

Tekkit from my memory is not as bad as FTB, so you could get away with 1.5GB to the server using a laptop and Ethernet.
