Posted October 14, 2014 I have no idea how DoS attacks work or how to block/minimize them from taking down my network's internet connection. How would I go about setting my network up to block these asshats? Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/233186-need-some-anti-dos-help/ Share on other sites
 Posted October 14, 2014 just saying, I've had no DDoS issues ever so I think if you're not using any software with risks of DDoS (skype bug) then I think you dont need to do anything more than just your router's Firewall. Depending on your router, the setup page will almost certainly have a security page. Look around there Are you new? Please read CoC Before posting! I would normally agree with you with just the router's firewall, but it doesn't seem to help. My brother showed me a user who was flaunting himself via Twitter as he was tweeting about taking down my brother's stream. Around the time he tweeted "DOWN @<brother's account>" my network would not connect to the internet. My modem was saying the internet was fine, but we had no connection whatsoever. Posted October 14, 2014 A DoS attack is a Denial of Service attack. Basically, the attackers send so much data to your house (usually through an NTP or DNS reflection) that you cannot get any of your own data through the line (overloading it). Sadly, in a consumer environment, there's not much you can do to prevent/mitigate a DoS attack. The best you can do is contact your ISP and see if they'll do anything. 15" MBP TB AMD 5800X | Gigabyte Aorus Master | EVGA 2060 KO Ultra | Define 7 || Blade Server: Intel 3570k | GD65 | Corsair C70 | 13TB Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/233186-need-some-anti-dos-help/#findComment-3186562 Share on other sites
 Posted October 14, 2014 Call your ISP and ask them to change your IP would be the simplest solution. How would they change your IP? Because he had a hard drive. Posted October 15, 2014 ... Ok then, you have more post than me. That means you are right, right? ISPs hand out the address on their network, so yes, they can change them (does not mean they will, but they can). 15" MBP TB AMD 5800X | Gigabyte Aorus Master | EVGA 2060 KO Ultra | Define 7 || Blade Server: Intel 3570k | GD65 | Corsair C70 | 13TB Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/233186-need-some-anti-dos-help/#findComment-3186767 Share on other sites
