Help troubleshooting BSOD 124 in 2500k overclock on Z77

Hello nice fellas, i seem to incounter some problems with my setup, here it goes:

I have no idea what's happening =))))))))

Jokes aside, i can't seem to find a stable clock for my baby, i'm on the stock cooler, waiting for an AIO, so i was roaming around 3.3-3.8, but i can't seem to nail the settings/voltages on this board, if i reset to default, sh*) goes sideways, my clocks& voltages jump around like crazy, and i BSOD randomly, so i was trying the manual way, but Z77 is a bit different from my common Z68 which i used to OC on, so it seems like i can run 3.6 on 1.368 v, which is crazy, but i managed to hit 5.0 bootable and Cinebanch-able (is this a word?) but after 20 mins or fendering at 1.398 v it crashed, i declared myself a happy OC-er and reverted to 3.6. The problem is that if i stress it properly, Prime95 small fft and a video playing in the background, i receive a BSOD in 10 mins aprox, no matter the voltage.

My question is, can someone experienced and having a z77 board with a Sandy, teach me the dark ways of stabilizing this?

I would be his apprentice forever,

Thanks fo' reading.

Are you checking temperatures??? With those high voltages and a stock cooler, the chip could be going to very high temperatures and shutting itself down to protect itself.

For those clocks  you should not have to go above 1.3 volts around 1.25 is most likely what you should be getting. Do you have any way of taking a picture of your complete BIOs settings and also a screen shot of CPUz running?

I would honestly not really try overclocking on that motherboard, the VRM design is not the best and the MOSFETs have no cooling so they can overheat very easily.

The temps are the reason why i don't go higher and wait for the AIO, at 3.6 and 1.368v, they were 77-80 under load, i will take a picture of the Bios tomorow, it's 2 am here, but i can post a cpu-z now:

Hello again, i found smth strange here, what's your opinion on this?   16748908.jpg

Which i can trust? the temp apps or CPU-Z? also, i bumped the Vrm freq to 350 hz, maybe it will help. If the temp gadgets are right, the voltage is normal, so my instability should be fixed with some bumps, if not... i am dooooomed :))

  • 2 weeks later...

Hella' again, i tested the shiz in another mobo and it seems to be fine, here are some results, curious that at 5.1 is performing lower that 5.0 at my system, maybe because of the ram or smth.
