How do i split my SSD into 2 seperate drives? right now i have my os and a couple programs installed on it with an extra 53gb of memory left. i want to separate the two and then use the new drive as a cache. i also want to set aside 11gb so i dont slow my ssd

thanks

John

I would recommend installing a new windows and then partitioning the ssd into suitable size that you want.

The reason being if you partition the existing SSD, there might be a case that you can corrupt your drive or the data.

But if you really wanna take the risk use read this page

if I reinstall windows can I split my ssd in half and setup half as a cache?

Whoa Whoa, no re installing windows or clicking that link...way to complicated. Let me ask a few questions first, what is this cache going to be for?

You can shrink a partition from within windows with no worries at all and then extend it back at anytime, as many times as you would like. Shrink Parition

dangit...i wish i had seen this sooner... i wiped my ssd (probably for the best) and partitioned it into 3 sections. 64gb for cache, 12gb of unusable "hidden" drive for speed (so i dont gunk up my ssd), then the rest is OS and random programs.

i want to use caching to speed up my 1tb HDD. it has all my games and chrome info.

how are you going to "cahce" a 1TB hard with with 64GB? I don't see how this will work. What software will you be using to cache your HD?

intel smart response I believe. this is the basis of my question haha

you basically use part of your ssd to cache for your hdd so your common applications recieve faster speeds

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't this only work for boot drives? I still think the cache is going to be too small to really help anything.

from what ive read it helps with read speeds of used programs. i dont believe its just for the boot drive
