HyperX Clouds vs Sennheiser HD558 + ModMic

I've had the Logitech G35's for about 1.5 years now and have no real complaints with them aside from the fact that they feel like they begin to squeeze my head fairly heavily after several hours of use, and have been casually browsing around looking for possible, sensible replacements for these bad boys in the near future. So while browsing my regular subreddits, I came across this link and it got me wondering whether it would be worth it to buy dedicated headphones and attach a mic to it, like the new antlion modmic or something similar?

My question is: Is it woth the difference in price ($50-60) between a gaming headset like the HyperX Clouds vs audiophile grade headphones + an attachable mic for the increase in sound quality that I would experience?

I can get 558 for 100 and Hyper for 90eur, so it's a nobrainer for the 558s? What about the leaking of the 558s? Is it noticable and anoying for others? It would be used mostly for gaming and some music.

No, it's not going to annoy others unless you're in a library or something and you still wanna pump music loudly. The problem is that outside noise gets in, moreso than the other way imo.

Having used the HyperX's - not happy with them

Care to elaborate? I'm quite happy with the pair I have but their not my main's. I have a couple of friends that purchased them as well and are enjoying them more than their previous headsets considerably.

Eh, build quality, looks, sound quality - I'd prefer spending a bit more on a pair of 280 Pro's.

Do you hear that there are people in the next room and the tv is on and you are gaming on the headphones on a normal volume...or do you need to crank up the volume to not her the noise from the outside?

Are the 558 that much better than the HyperX that you would not even consider what to get?

Well... have you ever tried a pair of headphones that don't really block out outside noise? Doesn't have to be open. There are the cheapo headphones/headsets for like $10, $20 you can buy which don't block out much of anything even though they are closed. It's a bit like that for noise isolation. It obviously depends on personal opinion, how much noise they can tolerate. If you can shut the door (if your computer is in your room), that should be just fine. Where my computer is, the TV room is right next to mine and there is NO door. Even then, my open headphones are not really a problem. Maybe you can just imagine having speakers instead of headphones... Speakers don't have sound isolation... if you had speakers in your room, would the outside noise be too loud for you?

Truth be told I haven't really bothered to try out headsets. My opinion is that you should try to spend a little bit more on audio than you want to because you're probably not going to be upgrading these for a loooong time anyways. If I had bought a half-good headphone I would be asking myself whether I should upgrade many times. I got something very nice, so I know I don't need an upgrade. Buying budget headset/headphone, and then upgrading incrementally, that's costly because you've gotta sell the old stuff (annoying) at a discount and then buy new crap. Of course... that is just my opinion.
