Go with a 1230, the 1220 has no hyperthreading

Abit over budget but I'll ask him if he's willing to go up to 1,300

No need to get a cpu cooler as you can't over clock a xeon. I had that cpu before I upgraded to a 4790k. It's a pretty good cpu for the money.

don't you ever think that the OP wanted lower temps or a more quieter rig?

My mate doesn't care about noise levels

For about $10 more the E3-1231 V3 is available. It is a touch faster (100MHz) and a year newer tech (Haswell Refresh).

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Ok I've changed it to the 1231 because it seems pretty good for the price :D
