Hostnames not getting resolved correctly

My network is setup like this (simplified):

[internet] --> [router] --> unmanaged switches --> work pc; xen-server; nas

I'm normally able to access/ping all devices on my network using their hostname, but for some reason this only works on "legacy" devices now.

I recently changed the hostname on my NAS, but I can't access it on the new hostname. I can still access it on the OLD hostname.

Also, I recently installed xenserver on my server - but I can't access that on the hostname as well.

I tried rebooting everything, including the router. All devices has it's DNS address pointed to the router. I also tried using ipconfig /flushdns on my work pc.

I'm aware that this is normally done by a DNS-server, but since it have been working and still is working with old hostnames, I don't understand why it isn't working now.

How can I get this to work?

/flushdns was all I could think of, but you've done that already so...  ^_^

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

How I plan my builds -

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

I assume you tried re-doing all of this, right?

Well, I'm no expert in things like these, and I'm sure you know more than me. But, I suggest you map things out, as in draw them on paper or something. It sure sounds a bit stupid, but it solves most issues on connections even in programming...well at least I do that (no, it's not weird!). :)
