So, I wanted to un jailbreak my iPad and update to iOS 8 for the new 3rd party keyboards. I looked it up, and the only way that I found to do it is to launch into recovery mode and do a factory restore. The only issue is that iTunes requires you to update in the process. Normally, this would be fine. But, I have internet issues. Every 5-10 minutes (it's horribly inconsistent, no pattern whatsoever) the connection between me and my wifi router times out, or at least has a 800+ millisecond time on it. As a result, the download stops and I get completely screwed over, as it's become impossible to get the download to work. The round I use is the actiontec mi424wr, as it came with fios. I might try to troubleshoot, or at least move my computer to the router and try a wireless connection, but my dad is convinced its verizon, not the router. I was wondering if there's any solution that he may be open to. Oh yeah, and it affects my mom's job as she works from home.

EDIT: I normally get around 1.4 - 2 MB/s and it gets to about 400 MB, but it's inconsistent exactly where it stops.

Jailbreaking expert here.

What your gonna wanna do is download a custom IPSW for your ipad on a separate website, that way It wont fail through iTunes. Lets get started.

Go to this web site: http://www.idownloadblog.com/download/ and select your iPad model, under the iPad firmware section. Choose iOS 8. Make sure to choose the correct firmware for your exact iPad model. It will be different say for example an iPad 3, and an iPad 3 with cellular will use different ISPWs

Then once you download the appropriate IPSW jump into iTunes with your iPad plugged in, hit the iPad tab in iTunes. Then, if you are on windows, hit "Shift+Click" on restore. This will bring up the windows file explorer. Then, select the appropriate ISPW that you downloaded before, and the restore will begin.

By doing this, you bypass any error itunes will have downloading the file. You are downloading it from another site, so if it fails you wont have to take your ipad out of recovery mode and so on.

its actually a very simple process that took me 10 minutes to do myself,

1. get a computer that has i tunes on it

2. plug in your ipad and wait for i tunes to detect it

3. near the top right hand corner click on what should say something along the lines of ipad or what ever you named the ipad

4. click on the box that says check for update

5. let the i pad update and just follow the instructions iTunes gives you

you will not loose any data whatsoever but do note that IOS 8 has a reputation for being very poor slow and it will delete all of your twitter drafts.

* NOTE that IOS 8 is very poor and i personally don't like it and all of the glitches and bugs it has

*NOTE that when you plug in your ipad the ipad might try to sync just cancel the sync for now until the update is done

*NOTE i recommend that you backup the ipad just in case IOS 8 isn't for you

I had to do that when I loaded the iOS 8 beta on my iPad a while back (beta 2). I didn't have these issues then, but now I, like I said, have issues withmy internet. The issue isn't restoring it; it's that the internet times out before the download completes. I've been running ping tests with my router, google, and Apple. What happens is the connection between the router and I time out, causeing it fail. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clearer in the original post. The goal of this thread is to find a possible work around for the internet issues. The only thing that does sometimes work is MEGA downloads, for some reason.
