Hey guys :)

I'm looking to do an upgrade with my system.

I'm moving away from gaming and more into Photoshop and that sort of thing.

My current build is based around an FX-4100, so it's not great.

So far, this is my thoughts for the upgrade http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/V3kjvK

With this build, I'm looking to run OS X on it so I've based the upgrades from Tonymacx86.com .

My current build.
AMD FX-4100
Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB)
ATI HD 6850
Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB SSD
WD Green 1TB

I'm also looking to get a new GPU at some time, also get new monitors and replace my shameful display setup.

Any input would be appreciated.

Jem :)

Update:

Changed to a 4690k

You could also just get an H97 board, which is built for the non K haswell chips. It's similar, but doesn't have anything for overclocking like z97 does

Ok.

For my current build I bought a CPU capable of overclocking but I've never really wanted/needed to, that's why I chose the unlocked i5.

Get the Xeon and the cheaper chipset, it will perform like an i7 for much less money. The extra threads will help in your work loads.

As you'll be going to the Photoshop line of work, you might as well use Blend, Maya, 3d wors so i7 is a good idea.

Even though I don't know your budget, I did this for ya:

                                                          PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£219.54 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  (£24.98 @ CCL Computers)
Motherboard: Asus H97-PRO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£82.76 @ Scan.co.uk)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£119.98 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Crucial MX100 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (£51.94 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card  (£289.95 @ Ebuyer)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case  (£88.33 @ Scan.co.uk)
Total: £953.98

If you can afford it, get a 4790k, a z97 motherboard and overclock it. Added a 128GB SSD just because why not and the rest it's just trying to keep it simple.

Okidoke thanks, I've never known what the different letters mean  :)

Intel processors with a K are unlocked, meaning you can overclock them. To be able to overclock them, you usually need a motherboard with a zXX chipset. If you get a locked processor, getting a motherboard with a zXX chipset is just spending extra money for features you won't even be able to use...

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k | CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 | Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z97 MARK 1 | Memory: Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB 1866MHz | GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 4GB Windforce

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO | PSU: CM Silent Pro 720W | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe | Headset: Corsair Vengeance 2100 | Keyboard: Logitech G710+ | Mouse: Razer DeathAdder Chroma
