I know you would have had loads of these asked with the 980/970 coming or so I apologies in advance.

So my build is slowly starting to die on me after 4 years, I thought it was time to start upgrading and I thought I would get the most expensive part out the way at the beginning.

My budget for a GPU is £550, £600 if needed (planning on getting a second card in November when I have some more spare money), I was looking at the GTX 780Ti's but now that the 980's have been released I'm not too sure which to go for or which manufacturer.

Some more info if you need it. I run a triple monitor setup and the new build I am planning is an i7 4790K, H80i (case I have doesn't fit the H100i), Asus Sabertooth mobo and everything else I will be using from my old build.

My budget over all I am thinking about £1,500-£2,000 so any opinions on cards would be appreciated.

980 > 780 ti.

If you just plan on gaming then get an i5 4690K instead of an i7 4790K, there are very very few games that will take advantage of the i7's hyper threading.

Also I suggest getting a z97 mobo to go with the CPU, that way you don't run into issues with compatibility and such. (If the sabertooth mobo is a z87 then you should just have to do a bios update and it will be fine)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

I have 2x EVGA GTX 780ti dual classified's in SLI and they're amazing. Great for gaming and overclocking. I would recommend sticking with EVGA's superclocked 980 with reference cooler since blower style cooling is the best way to go for air cooling multi gpu setups and finding water blocks in the future would be easier too. I've been using EVGA cards for years and they have never failed.

CPU: Intel i7 4770k 4.3ghz MOBO: Asus Z87 Sabertooth RAM: 2x8GB RipJaws 1866mhz GPU: 2x GTX780ti SLI 1.2ghz SSD: 960GB 2x Intel 730 RAID0 CASE: Fractal Design Define S COOLING: Custom EK watercooling loop

I was thinking that from the reviews I have been watching. Not sure whether to just get 2 reference cards or 2 non ref cards. The Sabertooth is a Z97 board

I was looking at the ref EVGA as its only £455, think I might grab 2 of them.

Get http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp42980kr twice if you want GTX 980SLI

You could also go for SLI GTX 970 and then I recommend the EVGA GTX 970 with the plastic shroud reference style cooler.

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Doesn't matter which, though in sli configurations people tend to go with reference as it blows the heat out the back of the case and not back into the case.

I use my i5 4690K for editing videos, (Currently no GPU to help accelerate the work) I can render a 20 minute 1080p video in around 30 mins to an hour. (I use camtasia studio 8)

Hyper threading is also good for multitasking as well. For example, rendering video while playing games or live game streaming and more. The extra threads will help a lot. If you can afford it, I would go with the i7. It might not add a lot more frames, if any to games but makes everything else less burdening. With the extra processing horse power, you won't have to upgrade for the next few years.

  • 3 weeks later...

So I ordered these after talking on the forum, pre-ordered on the 27th, and was told an ETA of the 3rd for delivery but another week has went by and they have pushed it back to the 17th now.

From what I've been reading, EVGA aren't sending out big batches at a time so I am thinking about going for a different manufacture that has them in stock.

So I am looking at ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI or should a just grind it out and try and wait for the EVGA to become available?
