My external hard drive isn't showing up anywhere!

Hi guys, i really need some help.

So my external hard drive doesn't work.

I plug it in and it doesn't show up anywhere, not in disk management, device manager or anywhere even though the light on the drive itself is on and it seems to be working perfectly.

no i can't, but i don't think it's meant to, it's just a solid one or whatever it is.

Have you tried plugging it into a different PC? Is it a solid state drive or a HDD? You would be able to hear a HDD spinning, but if it's and SSD it won't make any noise. Have you tried it with different cables? If it's USB 3 you can use a USB 2 cable of the same type to test it, it will just be slower.

For example here is USB 3 micro B and USB 2 micro B on the left(which are back compatible):
