So i bought a new motherboard Asus Maximus Formula VII Z97.

I kept my 4770k and put it in the new board. I'm using a H100i water cooler

On my old Z87 board the cpu temps were really gradual rising 2-3'c at a time.

On my new board its more like 25'c in one jump. also the idle temps seem to jump around the 25-33'c wildly instead of a 1'c change on my old board.

Temps on high useage seem about 10'c higher as well. folding used to give me 42'c now its about 55'c although the ambient temp is a little hotter.

Do i have a faulty sensor?

Is there any good (free) software that i can use?

any bios settings that i can check/ change?

What are you using to check the temperature?

I always use MSI Afterburner for system monitoring, though HWMonitor is also good. CPU-Z is focused on CPU monitoring so you might want to check that out too.

Also just be sure to update your motherboard and CPU drivers, along with installing the newest BIOS version.

using Hwmonitor its giving me temps on my core's of 70'c whilst folding. seems way too hot for my liking, although asus suite says 59'c.

I have updated the bios, i installed the motherboard drivers going to check that they are up to date now. although i haven't heard of cpu drivers where would i get them from?

I have a 4770k and a h100i as well. Ever since I built my system or installed my h100i (not sure which) it has done the exact same thing. Right now it is jumping back and forthwith a 7c diff every half second. I have no idea why it does it and haven't found anything to fix it, it has a stable temp under load but fluctuates wildly when idled. But any case just letting you know you're not alone and hopefully it makes you feel better. 11 months of having this computer doing this and everything still works fine.

Ah sorry, being a bit dumb atm lol.

Only CPU drivers for the iGPU :P

Try out MSI Afterburner and CPU-Z, I've had some problems with HWMonitor so there may be some problem with it.

Yeah it seems fine ive had it running for a few weeks. the temps are the only thing thats annoying me. im pretty sure the temps aren't accurate.

Ah i see well il check them as well. I think its a faulty sensor because after burner is giving me temps of 150ish aha. although 50 on each core. might have look in the bios see if theres any setting there.
