So, my mobo is an Asus z97-k and it has an older bios (can't remember the version) and I want to update to the latest one (2202) but I'm not sure how can I do that. I know that it can be done by using an USB stick. I've downloaded the bios file (which is a .CAP file) and renamed it with the software downloaded from the ASUS site. Now, the usb has to be empty ?? And after I copy it to the stick, I should be able to update the BIOS with the tool in the mobo UEFI, right ?? Can something go wrong ? Can someone tell me exactly how to update my BIOS ?

Everything can go wrong if you dont do it right.
You dont want to make it a expensive doorstop.

While that may be similiar its not necessarily same version. You can see the BIOS version first line under Information title. In that pic its 0603. According to Asus product page, that version isn't even available for your board. Newest BIOS is 2202.

As for updating BIOS, refer to manual. I just checked and it has very clear step-by-step instructions. BIOS file needed you find on Asus support site or under this link. Its zip file and will require unzipping before update utilities can use it.

the one and ONLY reason to update the bios is because you have hardware that is not working correctly, and updating is a known fix for you.

If your system is sweet... don't do it... just... don't.

So many things can go wrong, and it is generally irreversible damage too.
