Need help choosing a CPU.

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

3570k is more than enough. You don't need a 3770k for programming or gaming...

The 750w is overkill. A 600w is more than adequate for the 780.

EDIT: What's your budget? You're planning a new build, correct?

Difference between 3570k and 3770k Isn't super huge. Considering your budget, the 3570k would be the choice for the dollar.

It's not silly that you dont want noctua because crappy color, I'm the same . Noctua fans are good , but remember you can also replace them . Maybe with Corsairs SP/AF120 /140 or Scythe Typhoons

If you're main priority is gaming then go with the i5 3570K or FX 8320 as they both work wonders. Since games don't make use of Hyper-Threading, it's a waste of money to go with the 3770/K. If you will utilize the extra threads (rendering, video editing, CAD, etc) of the 3770/K, it may be worth going with it.

I'd recommend dropping the H100i and go for an air cooler for less and can perform better. Just like someone else suggested, the Noctua NH-D14 is a fantastic cooler for the price, though you said you don't like the colours. Another recommendation would be the Phanteks PH-TC14PE for about $80 - it performs similar to the Noctua NH-D14 but comes in a better variety of colours.

Since Haswell is just around the corner, it's probably a good idea to wait. The performance increase will only be around 5%-10%, but you'll have the option to upgrade in the future.

To be honest id rather get the H100i because its only 19$ more than the Phanteks PH-TC14PE

and it isn't as big and it just looks better.
