Hi all so wired network connection was working fine

until yesterday now I get the error 'Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration

My network setup is

Router/modem>Power line>powerline>Desktop

My laptop can connect to the network and seems to work fine over wireless

I have tried reinstalling the Ethernet driver

as well as these http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f31/solved-local-area-connection-doesnt-have-a-valid-ip-configuration-683968.html

The Local area connection has Unidentified network below it

I have ordered a new Ethernet cable which arrives tomorrow

I am using Windows 7 ultimate using a Asus Maximus vi formula using the onboard Ethernet connection

Any Ideas?

ps and no I cant directly connect to the router due to the router having poor wireless

Have you tried setting a static IP address? Also try resetting the powerline plugs ^ ^.

Yes I have done both to no effect

I would say it'd be worth plugging the laptop into the wallplugs via ethernet not wireless to find out if the problem is with the plugs / cable or the router / desktop.

The laptop doesn't detect the ethernet cable so it's the cable or powerline that's the problem right?

That would make sense. I'm not sure what powerline model you are using but if you haven't already it may be worth trying to reset it. Sometimes I find if you try resetting it while they are plugged into the same outlet right next to each other at the same time it'll find it faster.

If that doesn't work, check the cable itself by plugging it directly into the router and using your laptop. If the cable works fine then it's probably the powerline plugs.

Just tried plugging direct to the router but my laptop wasn't able to pick it up

which is very odd

If you've got another ethernet cable try using that. Also if there are any other ethernet ports in the back  try using those as well.
