Windows 8.1 Crash/error.......

Go to solution Solved by Pandabrain,

http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59496

Doesn't look good for the card. But it could also be the power supplies fault. Maybe it isn't plugged in well enough.

Some additional information would be helpful:

What "error code 62"? Does this appear when windows starts up? Does its window has a title?

Or are you talking about the LCD Display on your motherboard? If so what mainboard do you have?

Do you have a windows 8/8.1 Installation disc nearby for repairing the installation?

Does your pc boot into safe mode?

The resolution might be crap because windows couldn't load the proper graphics driver for some reason.

And the error code might appears because of similar reasons.

I'd try to boot windows into safe mode and restore the most recent system restore point. If this doesn't work for whatever reason you can try to boot from the installation disc and try to repair your installation.

There may be more solutions depending on what you have access to and how your system behaves.

it shows up on my motherboard.

It sometimes starts up and then when I'm doing nothing it restarts itself it's like a loop.

I found out that if I open a program that it wont restart as quickly but it will restart itself later.

My motherboard is a ASUS MAXIMUS VII RANGER I didn't overclock it or anything.

The installation disc is lost in my house I have been looking for it for a while but couldn't find it yet.

I sometimes get a message on my screen that there has been an error and I need to restart it (it's a blue ish screen in a weird resolution) if I press on restart it will take on the weird resolution and apply it to my desktop once I'm on my desktop I get a message that it failed to load the right resolution click here for a repair (it says something like it). When I press it nothing happens.

thanks for your reply

Ok, here is the error message from the mainboards manual:

62 – Installation of the PCH Runtime Services

I did a very short research and it seems to be caused by different problems. It is very likely that there is a problem with a PCI device, like your graphics card. That would also explain the weird behaviour with the resolution.

My suggestions:

- You can either open your pc, unplug and remove your graphics card and plug your monitor into the onboard graphics slot to try it again, or if you want to keep analysing without opening your case you can try this:

- Press the BIOS reset button to set your bios to default optimal settings. It is placed at the back between the USB ports and the on board DVI slot. It will ask you to enter the bios setup since you first started your computer after resetting.

This should eliminate all errors related to faulty bios settings.

- Try to boot Windows into safe mode: Press F8 repeatedly  when the pc boots up. The first thing that comes is the boot selection of your mainboard. Hit Enter and keep pressing F8. It should give you an option like "Safe mode with network driver"

If the system behaves normal, it's a windows fault and the update went wrong, if the system behaves weird again, your OS might be corrupted or it is a hardware failure.

Please let me know if this helped you.

EDIT: Here is the manual to your mainboard if you need it:

Oh, I thought you couldn't use your system at all.

You should try to reinstall your graphics driver. If it doesn't work try to boot into safe mode and start the installation/download from there.

I remember my Windows 8.1 to become unstable after a while and sometimes not booting properly. My solution was a complete reinstall of windows.

With a windows 8 disc/iso you would have the possibility to "refresh your system". which is basically like a fresh installation, but it keeps some files I guess...

If reinstalling the driver doesn't help, I don't really know what else to do, except reinstalling/"refreshing" your windows.

So I tried doing that but it started up normal so when I had to pick wich option I wanted to do I cancelled it to check if I had made a back up of some files and everything is worse now.

The resolution is fucked, I have no LAN connection even though it works fine on my laptop, I changed the resolution and it still isn't the right one even though I put it on the right one. I lost Google Chrome, when I right click on my background I should be able to go into Nvidia personalisation to see if run it in SLI mode or just on one card that option is GONE I can't even click on that. maybe you can help...

***************************EDIT*************************

It somehow deleted the driver updates so I installed them again and it worked a bit, the log in screen is still weird but it works.

After all the updates I'll try to reinstall it again....

it didn´t work... If I play a game on Steam it crashes and makes a noise like it´s `shaking` sorry I don´t know any other way to describe it.

I tried reinstalling Windows 8.1 but I get a message saying `Missing files for recovery`..

Any idea? thanks in advance

sorry, I hadn't  much time this weekend.

Still sounds like either your windows or one of your graphics cards is broken.

I don't really get the message "Missing files for recovery". Maybe your windows installation is corrupt?

Or maybe you didn't do a clean installation. There is some installation routine in windows that tries to recover an already installed windows.

Here is a tutorial on how to do a clean installation:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/clean-install

If you still can't install it, there is most likely something wrong with your installation files/medium. Btw. where do you install your windows from?

If you get the windows to run but it behaves weird once again, try what I said before about unplugging and removing your graphics card(s) and only use the on board hdmi/dvi/analog connector.

I succesfully reinstalled Windows 8.1 now and it seems to be workingg fine now. It crashed one time restarting itself but thats it. I think it's fixed thanks for your help

Right.. it didn't work I'll try unplugging the video card and such but the thing is I can boot it some times it just boots everything is normal and when it's done after a minute or 3 it restarts itself giving sometimes error code 62 (installation of the pch runtime services)

I Googled it and read that it can be my RAM or my GPU but that wouldn't explain why it worked before.....

Also I do get a Windows 8.1 message that it Windows hasen't load properly Choose an option. I already reinstalled Windows 8.1 and after that I did a clean install.

It says Start-up Repair couldn't repair your PC.

thanks in advance...

"Start-up Repair couldn't repair your PC" shows up when your computer didn't start properly the last time.

I remember now getting this message when I had these boot loops. So just to be sure: You are sure that you boot into the correct windows? Or did you delete the old one?

If it really is the fresh installed windows then I don't know what else it could be besides the hardware.

I'm pretty sure I made a clean install. What  I did was the following:

Settings>  Change PC settings> Update And Recovery > Recovery> Remove everything and reinstall Windows > Only wipe Windows on the drive (SSD) where you installed Windows 8.1> done.

I think it's my second Graphics Card because I can't see him anywhere (can't choose the run SLI mode) and it only shows 2 of the 5 leds that should be burning I'll include a picture if I know how to..       http://gyazo.com/4c4f9b7825b9cd9c951d8ae702547560
