I use Autodesk Maya 2014 and am still quite a newbie at animation, so I was wondering something. What I'm trying to do is make it so the armour on the model doesn't deform, as the model I'm using uses the armour to fill in the space the jumpsuit would have been in. so I guess the question would be "how do I make something rigid so it doesn't deform when the skeleton is moved". Also the armour has to be attached to the rest of the model as weird things happen when it's not

I strongly recommend you join one of the many forums dedicated to 3D design. Also the Autodesk Campus community is very helpful.

I would just extract the armor pieces if they are part of the mesh and parent constrain them to nurbs curves on the rig.

Edit: That or spend all day painting weights :P --depends on how complex the armor is and how you want it to move.

Okay could you explain that in a little more detail? I'm really clueless much beyond basics and I also don't understand the extract tool and what parent constrain/nurbs curves are. I'm really new xD

Yeah.. you should instead probably be taking classes of some sort and looking at online tutorials, or going to the autodesk forum than asking a tech forum about these kinds of things.

This is an example where lynda.com would be quite useful.  http://www.lynda.com/3D-Animation-training-tutorials/1-0.html?category=autodesk_107
