What headphones?

Go to solution Solved by MayflowerElectronics,

The ad700x is the best choice put of those two. It's almost the exact same thing as the 900x and it's cheaper.

The 700x works great if you have a medium to large head, and the HD 558 (which is what you should get if you want sennheiser because it's the exact same thing as the 598) is good if you have a smaller head. Sound wise they have less soundstage and have a little bit more bass (from what I remember) then the ad series but for gaming the ad series will be better.

Hey, I was wondering what the superior set of headphones would be, the Audio Technica ATH-AD900x or Sennheiser HD598? If someone could enlighten me on this that would be great,

Cheers.

The ones that sound better to you :P

It's not an exact science, personally I prefer the Sennheisers on the whole.

Is it a coincidence that happen to have reviews on both of those cans? Haha. For music, is depends on what sound signature you prefer honestly. I'd say the ad900x are marginally better for gaming. For me, overall the 900x are better for what my needs are. I prefer a brighter sound signature, game somewhat competitively and find the 900x to be a bit more comfortable, which may be different for you.

Not really, I read one of your threads and people were suggesting different headphones and those two were the best for me out of them but what I meant to say was what are they like compared with each other? I know you have both so I was kinda hoping that you would post on this thread but yeah, what are they like against each other?

I would have tried both but I kinda live about 3 hours away from the nearest store that sells headphones, well decent ones anyways.

HD 598's - I have 'em right here. I love these. Best purchase I've made in so long. Amazing sound (and don't even have a DAC or extra soundcard), long cable that you can remove from the headphones and most of all the comfort is amazing. I wear these all day without ANY issues. They're good for most types of music, but I think especially so for Soundtracks/Hiphop/melodic stuff. I wouldn't recommend them to a pure metalhead, but other than that, I LOVE these things.

I love StarCraft

So if I was to use the 700x with your Desktop Objective2/ODAC with RCA they would produce a pretty dam,n great sound or would the 900x be better paired with the objective 2 or still with the 700x?

The 700x and the 900x are nearly the same headphone so it doesn't matter what's driving it.

The 700x it is, thank you!

The 700x it is, thank you!

I owned the AD700, not the 700x, but they should sound very similar, and I also own the AD900x, and I can honestly say there are small nuance differences in the sound. They both share the same general sounds signature, and both have large and airy soundstages. To me, the AD900Xs have a slighly punchier bass, isn't as bright as the AD700 and handles sibilance a bit better. Mids are a tiny bit forward, and probably a few other tiny nuances I haven't noticed without extensive comparison. Here in Canada, the AD900x is actually CHEAPER to ship from Amazon.com, which makes the choice obvious for me, but differs depending on location. :)

EDIT: If you save enough money, get the 700x.
