280x running 3 monitors

Go to solution Solved by Fulgrim,

If you are only running a game on a single monitor, and just use the others to display the desktop then aye, it's fine.

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if you think a Asus Direct CUII R9 280x would be able to run 3x monitors. Im currently running 2x 24" 1920x1080 asus monitors and im thinking of adding a 29" 2560x1080 monitor.

I wont be gaming on all 3 thou. Primarily i use 1 monitor to run an EvE client and the other to surf the web whilst i wait for something to happen on EvE :P.

Im just wondering if the 280x will have a enough juice to run all 3 if i only game on the 29"

Cheers

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Ah great! i initially didn't think it would be an issue, but i didn't want to throw $500+ at a monitor if i wasn't certain. Now i just need to find a decent monitor!

Thanks for all the help guys.

Only game i have which i play using both screens, is Supreme Commander 2.

It's a great RTS game, and i have my secondary display an overhead view of the entire map, so i don't have to spend previous time scrolling in and out to see where all my team mates have sent their forces.

My R9 270X handles it fine, lol. Your card is a dual GPU so it has more horsepower to do so. You will have no issue running 3 monitors, as long as you don't do eyefinity.

280x isnt a dual GPU card, its just a re branded HD7970 i think?. I did tinker with eyefinity but it never really appealed to me to much as the bevels drove me insane! I only really ever use both monitors when using Photoshop, and Premier, and i don't really do very much of that. I might try running some of my other games on both monitors to see if the card can handle the new 2560x1080 res easily, as this would replace my first 24" as my primary monitor.

Snap, always thought the 280x was dual gpu, like the 7970.

Yeah im a bit confused about AMD's models and naming convention, but im certain the 280x isn't a dual gpu card, if it is mine isn't working properly :P haha
