P280 vs R4 vs 450D

kingkickolas

I just need something that can cool my 4790k and stay pretty quiet.

I'll be using an NH-U14S with all case fans replaced with NF-F12s or NF-A14s. And whatever case I get, I'll get it windowed.

If the 450D will stay quiet with 2 fans in the front (and 1 or 2 in the top), I'll probably go with that.

Otherwise, what do you guys think?

My (first) build: i7 4790k | Noctua NH-U14S + NF-A15 | Gigabyte Z97X-SLI | G.Skill Ripjaws X 2x4GB 2133MHz CL9 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB | Seagate 2TB SSHD | 2x MSI R9 270X TwinFrozr crossfire | Seasonic G Series 750W 80+ Gold | Asus VX238H 23" | GAMDIAS HERMES | Logitech G602 | Steelseries QcK | Windows 8.1

R4 for silence.

The 450D will still let a lot of GPU noise out. If you want silence, I would say the R4.

That seems pretty unanimous to me! As long as you guys think it'll deliver great cooling.

Onto a secondary point, does the R4 seem too short for it's width, or is that just me?

It won't deliver great cooling. That's always the trade off with silence vs performance. 450D will allow better air flow, with higher noise levels, and the R4 quieter with slightly higher temps.

The airflow seems fine to me, I also purchased an additional Fractal 140mm fan for the front and run all the 140's on the 5v setting. I didn't really look at the dimensions before I bought it but, I have to say I love it's boxier stance.
