Maximus VII Hero POST issue

So I think I'm getting sick of ASUS. I used to love their products (mainly motherboards), but I have now had 2 motherboards that do not POST on boot.

The first one was a Z97-A but that apparently was a bad board and Amazon got a lot of complaints about it. I believe the customer service representative called it a bad batch. So I returned it, and bought a Maximus VII Hero. Best rated Z97 board I found, I figured it has to work. Nope. It refuses to post just like the last board but this time I get a Q code of A2 which corresponds to "IDE Detect". I have done the usual checks. I swapped out SATA cables, checked CPU pins, 1 stick of RAM, cleared CMOS, using on board graphics, etc. Still haven't been able to fix it.

Any ideas?

enable fast boot with partial Sata and partial USB initialization fixed one of my issues with the hero 6 and posting

 

Edit: a2 really means its trying to find a bootable device make sure all of your drives have power and are connected as well as AHCI is enabled instead of IDE

I don't really know what any of that means. I have tried to connect both my SSD and my HDD with no effect. They are both blank SSD and HDD drives. As far as I can tell, the drive has to actually boot before I can switch it from AHCI to IDE. But everything is connected properly (I think).
