my friend is using this cpu in his B85 build with a GTX 750Ti but he's wondering if he upgrades to a R9 280X will it bottleneck

 

I'm not sure myself so i'm checking with you guys  advice please

 

the gigabyte R9 280X on discount so he's planning to upgrade

in most games no. some well threaded cpu heavy games may suffer a bit.

 

also if it's cheaper/available i'd get the i3 4150. there's usually a $30 difference.

I don't think he's intending to  get a new CPU  he's aiming for the GPU so i hd to ask

No prob. Thats higher overclocked haswell refresh i3 and looking at 4130 benchmarks, it should not bottleneck at all. The only con of this cpu is in cpu bound scenarios when there is alot of stuff going on screen ( multiplayer games especially ) so minimum fps will be lower than for example i5 4690. But it wont bottleneck to the point where it is holding back gpu load. Austin made video comparison if you wanna check.
