Windows 8.1 install question

I was told to  create custom and click on new, but I forgot that step. What I did was, click custom and then just clicked on okay/next. Will it automatically make a partition for me? Or does something else happen. I'm not noticing anything so far.

It'll just install, no partitions will be made.

Windows creates a partition and formats it to NTFS in that process, no need to fiddle around with it manually. If you want, say, C: and E: on the same physical disk, you can sort that out via Disk Management once Windows is loaded.
