Hi guys!

In a couple of weeks I'll be building a new PC for my mom. The budget isn't very big at all,

but I'm getting on with choosing all the parts.

For the CPU I'd like to use is the Intel Core i3 3225, (because it has HD4000 graphics and future upgrade possibilities)

But I'm not sure it's supported by this motherboard: the MSI H61MA-E35 (B3).

Do you guys know?

If not, what would you recommend me to pick instead?

Thanks!

It mentions on the spec of the motherboard that it supports Sandy Bridge processors, but not Ivy, which is what your CPU is. Don't quote me on that, as I don't want to say I'm 100% sure, but I'm pretty certain it isn't compatible. Try looking for a board that mentions supporting 3rd Gen/Ivy Bridge processors.

What is your budget for the MOBO.

i would recommend this the MSI Z77A-GD45

Not that much. I've asked for advice on another topic here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/20458-basic-pc-450-usd/

It's only about $450, so that motherboard is a bit too expensive. I'd like to spend as much as possible on performance-enhancements components.

I would recommend you get an AMD APU and an FM2 motherboard for Mom. Mom probably doesn't need a whole lot of CPU power and the graphics in the APU are way better than the Intel HD4000, which is better for watching Youtube HD videos, Skype, etc. Such as:

But if you want to stick to Intel, then:

H77 should be fine, since your Mom is not apt to overclock the CPU.

In any case, for Mom, you don't need a lot of bells and whistles on the motherboard.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.
